EVENTS/OPEN DAYS

Plant sale in the Old Deanery Garden
Plant sale in the Old Deanery Garden

An enthusiastic group of gardeners and historians have been working to revive the garden and to commemorate William Turner with plants familiar to, and catalogued by him.

The Old Deanery Garden holds regular Open Days throughout the year, when you can see the garden as it continues to change and develop.  The garden is open to the public certain dates throughout the year.   On all these days admission is free, but donations are welcomed.

SOUTH WEST IN BLOOM 2008

The efforts of the Old Deanery Garden project were recognised in the South West in Bloom competition and all credit must go to the group of enthusiastic volunteers who take part in this project.   The Old Deanery garden was included in the City of Wells entry for South West in Bloom 2008.  Royal Horticulatural judges were so impressed with the garden that they presented Wells with the Regional Local Roots Award, a special discretionary award for community projects that encourage links with their local history.  It was the only garden in the South West to receive this prestigious certificate in 2008.  The award was presented at a ceremony in the Guildhall, Plymouth and can be seen hanging in the Old Deanery.
